Elsie De Raedt, expert on old roses and writer, has chosen the Loire Valley
(Chinon) as showcase for her well-loved roses.
On the site of an old vineyard Elsie has established a garden, a "walk through the history of the rose".
It is certainly worth the detour. With a collection of irisses, daylilies and asters, remarkable trees and antique, botanical and modern roses she has created a fascinating and wild universe.
The little shop abounds with sophisticated gifts and contains some rare roses and vibrant plants.
The
garden is included in a wonderful garden route: the Prieuré de St-Cosme
where Pierre de Ronsard used to live, Courcilpleut Park in Doué-la-Fontaine(6
ha of roses), the enchanted gardens of the Château du Rivau in Lémeré,
the romantic gardens of La Chatonnière in Azay-le-Rideau and the Château de
la Bourdaisière with the famous Tomato-Collection in Montlouis.
Rose
festival in Elsie's garden: 3rd and 4th weekend of May, 1st weekend
of June.
