Welcome
Elsie De Raedt, inspirator of a host of gardens in the Flemish region of
Belgium and the Netherlands, lives in a magnificent house in Chinon, in the
vicinity of the most famous castles in the Loire Valley.
Six guestrooms, Bed & Breakfast formula, are at the disposition of
garden lovers.
The house was built in 1845 by baron de David de
St-Hilaire, amid one hectare of greenery.
He was the 'private secretary' to the Duchess of Angoulème, daughter of
Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. It is a home with a royal past.
Elsie's house is decorated with a splendid collection of watercolours by the
botanical painter Raphael Ghislain.
Reproductions are available in the shop and adorn the guest rooms.
On the site of an old vineyard Elsie has established her garden, a 'walk
through the history of the rose'. It is certainly worth the detour and it can be visited the whole year on appointment only, tel. 00 33(0) 247 98 07 58.
